A bit of banner ad history

Ever see the very first banner ad to run online? I came across it the other day and thought it was pretty cool.

Here it is:



It ran back in October 25th, 1994 on Hotwired and was for ATT&T.

Wow, wasn't that a finely targetted ad?

It reminds me of my phone company who every month still send us direct mail asking us to sign up for thier phone service (even though we've been a client for 14 months).

Would be nicer if they used that money to send us a newsletter, or some client appreciation mailing.

Looks good but doesn't it seems like other scammers. I might be wrong but what's special?
