Question Editorial Associate = Copy Cub?

Hey there everyone,

My name is Jim and I'm completely new to the copywriting world. I recently read an issue of the Gary Halbert letter where he laid out how to write a good ad piece on any given product in '30 days'. (Yes, I know, the steps he lays out would take someone about 2-3 months of hard work if they have a full time job.)

At any rate, I'm wanting to work the process he lays out and combine it with some advice that Clayton laid out on landing a job with an ad agency. I'm wanting to work in a direct response agency (Agora, Phillips, etc.) to get some solid experience before setting out on my own.

I was looking over Agora's job openings and I saw that they have an opening for an 'Editorial Associate'. Here is the description...

Quote:
Responsible for researching, editing, writing, learning divisional markets, and some administrative duties. Works closely with editorial and marketing staff.

Requires communication, writing skills, and knowledge of the Internet. Must be detail-oriented, organized and able to meet rigid deadlines. Proofreading/editing experience a plus.
My question is simple.

Is this position the equivilent of a copy cub? If it is, it's exactly what I'm looking for. Any help would would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Jim

P.S. If any of you would like to weigh in on my plans and save me years of grief and wasted effort, I would be more than willing to listen with an open ear!

Hi Jim,

The term 'copy cub' basically means junior copywriter or apprentice copywriter.

This editorial position doesn't sound the same at all -- that said, an editorial or marketing associate position within Agora would probably give any aspiring copywriter/marketer a great foundation in the business of direct response marketing.

My .02,
John

Do you have a link to the above mentioned Halbert letter?

I would be interested in reading it.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hey Jeff,
I believe this might be the one Jim is referring to.

Thanks - it's the one.

I started following some of the steps outlined, ordered some books, and started writing out some old sales copies in long hand.
